Not your usual "Ugly Duckling" story!!!

This is the kind of book we need to give to our teenagers today. They can relate in the realest way possible. The pressures of peers, drugs, sex, the macho attitude, and lonliness. It tells of a boy and many others who just want someone to love them. It tells of how God uses other people to help these teenagers see that they are truly NOT alone. God loves them, no matter what crimes they've committed, or what kind of darkness is in their heads and hearts. Nicky Cruz shares his life with us in the most open way. He helps you see how his life was transformed from one of gang life to a wonderful life with a wife, children, and a mission to help other who were just like him. I highly recommend it. Even if you don't believe in God or His awesome power, you will still be able to relate to Nicky. I guarantee you'll be rooting for him and will feel joy in his life-changing moments. He is truly a man touched by God.

If you run into this message... EMBRACE IT!

This book starts with somebody yelling, "Stop that crazy kid!" I think right then and there was when my fears were ceased. I've really wanted to read "Run Baby Run" for quite sometime. Yet you run into somebody else's life story, and it isn't as interesting as you thought it might be. So, I did take a chance, and I'm glad I did. If you are looking for the power of Christ, you've come to the right place. If you are looking for the possible description of a street fight, you've come to the right place. If you want a little bit of romance added to the picture, (YEP) you've come to the right place! And the story is all true, that's the amazing thing. Mario Puzo didn't pen this out and send it out to his publisher. Nicky Cruz LIVED it, and he's here to tell his story. Some might be wondering if it's the same old "blood, sweat and tears" story. Hmm... maybe the words blood, sweat, tears, puke, convulsions, profanity, narcotics, spiritual warfare and MORE might fit the bill. Don't let that scare you away though.

If you've ever heard Nicky Cruz speak, he isn't always the easiest to understand, yet his language of love through Christ is universal. He's ticked off at Satan, people! I believe he has every right to be. He tells an amazing story of coming from Puerto Rico to the States (New York) and almost immediately getting involved in gang activity. He talks of the Mau Maus, and how he became the president eventually. He speaks of his best buddy, Israel. He talks about friends killed in gang warfare. He goes into detail about the rumbles. But that's just the beginning. He also talks of a man named David Wilkerson. He talks of Pastor Wilkerson with much awe and reverence. And from there he talks of a great relationship with Jesus Christ. He goes into detail about Bible college, he tells of his struggles. He tells of his ministry. Now some of you reading my review might be asking, "Uh, Wolfe... did you just TELL us the whole story?" I don't think so. You'll have to get the book for that. The time invested in well worth it.

There is power in the testimony of Nicky Cruz, yet there is more power in the one who saved him, Jesus Christ. Embrace the message of this book! If you are one who is still running, run to a Heavenly Father who is waiting. Then you'll run an awesome race! So don't let the title intimidate you. Pick it up, and don't run from what Nicky Cruz has to say.

This book will challenge you!

I read "Run Baby Run" when I was in my mid-teens, and the book had an incredible impact on me. Nicky's story of redemption from a life of sin and crime in the inner city of New York, and the story of the man who God used to bring Nicky to Christ, shows how the power of God is able to change any heart. It also gives the reader a glimpse into the life a young person lives in the inner city, surrounded by gangs, drugs, prostitution and poverty. The book is well written and impossible to put down! I came away with a new awe for the awesomeness of God and with a desire to reach out to those who are hurting, hopeless and in need of a Savior. I still read this book periodically to remind myself that there is a world that needs to hear the gospel and that nothing is impossible with God!

A great resource for massage therapists and other CAM practitioners

This book is excellent for people who don't know anything about research but want to understand it. Menard's explanations are detailed, yet simple enough that massage therapists or other practitioners who are just learning about research literacy are not going to be intimidated. I encourage my fellow massage therapists to read this, if for no other reason than to understand the difference in real research and website hype. The cartoons add a touch of humor, which always takes the stress off of learning something new. Great resource.

Jemma Jacksen RCT CCT BSc has a Bachelor of Science degree and Cardiac diploma and she suffered Fibromyalgia so bad for several years she almost needed a cane to walk and was bed ridden with pain and fatigue for months to years. Jemma had life- saving open heart surgery at age 29 and has encountered trauma during her life. Trauma is not uncommon among fibro sufferers. It was in her later years she went back to school and received her diploma in cardiac studies that she soon thereafter fell ill with fibro and hypothyroidism, often going hand in hand. Her adrenals were burnt out too. Jemma is by nature a problem solver and was not going to let any illness hold her back in life, stop her from living out her dreams, so she embarked on a journey to help herself thru trial and error and some studying. Finally this, her first book after 5 years in creation she had Fibrosuccess, fitting title as Jemma is naturally optimistic and owns the .com because she invented the word. A Unique take on Fibromyalgia !! ....Brilliant !!

I loved reading this book...easy to understand, great layout, made good sense. I recommend anyone suffering fibromyalgia to pick up this book, takes under 1 1/2 weeks to read and started to see improvements in 3-4 weeks!....The coverage on the reasoning behind fibro is brilliant and makes sense while the information on Gluten and diet is very applicable and useful. Great insights and information for all. Women outnumber men when it comes to this illness and Jemma's understanding and explaining why this is so is never before discovered or discussed. Wow. A lot of hard work and understanding of this illness went into this book and it comes through. I especially liked reading the insightful spiritual stuff in Random related topics where Jemma explores issues one always deals with when suffering depression and long term illness, relationships, stress, energy, fatigue, insomnia, it is all covered. Most important is her way to deal with resolving pain for all who suffer joint or muscle pain. Stress is very well explored within the pages. Perceptions, whether yours or others are analyzed. Best read in a long time and very UNIQUE mind, body, spirit book and take on this very debilitating illness to which there are not many answers. This book is written for the fibro patient and some doctors, not purely academia. Well done Jemma and thanks for the lift! You helped me a lot. I will pass on your message to help more people.

excellent book with excellent information !

Excellent book that I read cover to cover in 3 days! The author is very thorough in explaining this illness and has obviously researched this as well. The book actually calms my anxiety, and every time I feel the anxiety surge coming on, I pick it up and start reading it again and ....wallah ....I feel so much better! This book is so much more than I thought it was. I would just like to meet the author and tell her how much it has helped me in just a week! Amazing!!! If you have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia get this book, it's a treasure find!

Horrible book-don't waste your money. It is so poorly written its hard to read. The book is just this woman's uneducated opinions on fibromyalgia. There are so many typos, incomplete sentences and thoughts it's near impossible to read. There are so many great fibromyalgia resources but this is not one of them.

Slim book, but full of substance

Created in 2013 after a successful kickstarter campaign , Weird Wars: Rome is a slender, strangely sized booklet - it sticks out on the shelf - that's short on page count but chock-full of good stuff.
The premise is classic: the horrors of war are real and are feeding on violence and misery, so that supernatural creatures and monsters become very real... in ancient Rome.

The basic handbook provides all that we expect from a Savage Worlds setting - characters, new setting rules, a good, quick but solid overview of the gaming world.
Just add the SW handbook.

A number of military campaigns is outlined in the handbook - ready to play.
* the Second Punic War
* the Third Macedonian War
* the Fall of Carthage
* the De Bello Gallico
* the Invasion of Britain
* the Boudicca Rebellion
* the Jewish Rebellion
* the Germanic Wars

Like other titles in the Weird Wars line (such as **Weird War II**), the game is geared towards miniature tactical action. In this sense, we can imagine scenarios in which our Roman Legionaries will first discover and investigate the horror, and than take it on in combat, on the field.
Now, I'm not so hot about using miniatures - after all, I've played Savage Worlds in a car, on the road, and in a number of other situations in which there was barely room for the dice - but Weird Wars: Rome is clearly one of the settings that really shines when the miniatures are on the table.

Another great feature of Weird Wars: Rome is the *Legatum* mechanics - a simple system that, while deepening the setting and making characters more connected with it, allows the keeper to run a multi-generational campaign, running through the whole of Roman history, from the Republic to the twilight of the Empire.
This is a fascinating opportunity, and it is very much in line with the Roman mindset, with the centrality of family and ancestry.
With the Legatum, sons may fight the enemies of their fathers.

The artwork is very fine, and there's a wealth of extras and accessories out there - handbooks, maps, paper miniatures, the works.
All in all, an excellent addition to my collection.

Gets You Rolling

I have to wonder what Mani's threshold for expectations is, with a one-star rating, and a review mainly consisting of "I didn't like it, Weird War II is better".

Let's have a look at production values--they are excellent, with beautiful artwork and layout, and the physical book is about the size of a graphic novel, which I sort of like, although I can see why some people wouldn't. I just like the idea of a book that I can carry in a coat pocket or something. How it works in play is another question, and one I can't answer--yet (I have quite a backlog of settings I want to play in).

If you own other Savage settings, Weird Wars Rome will be familiar. The character generation rules are about what you would expect, especially if you are familiar with the Weird Wars line. Decide what your character does and that will dictate most things about him. Your equipment is also pretty much predetermined (cutting down on shopping time) as money is replaced by "spoils" (a new system of rewards a little like Bennies, and used alongside them). New Hindrances and Edges are pretty standard stuff, including options for playing an officer or mystical initiate (which is sadly only for Seasoned characters, although this isn't unusual--Weird war II is the same way).

The GM is given helpful tips on naval battles and sieges, as well as a primer on Roman history and the regions of the Empire. There is also a random adventure generator, one of my favorite things about Savage settings. The "Legacy" Plot Point campaign is ... an unusual approach, but strikes me as appropriate considering that the Empire's history spans over a thousand years. And if you don't care for it, a number of other frameworks are detailed as alternatives (including both Punic Wars, Caesar's invasion of Gaul, Boudicca's Rebellion, the Germanic Wars, and others). As usual, there is also a bestiary.

In conclusion, the small size of the book means not as much of the work is done for you, but there are an awful lot of supplementary products Pinnacle has put out, and moreover, a GREAT DEAL of information about Rome just floating around on the Internet or in your library. Armed with the Savage Worlds Deluxe Explorer's Edition, Weird Wars Rome, a knowledge of where you want to take your game, and a willingness to explore a little, you should be well-equipped to defeat any of the Empire's foes--just like the Legionaries.

Great Fun!

Owning all things Savage I am taking the time to give my view of what I consider one of the best setting among many good ones. It is fresh take on historical fantasy and the system of command and squad structure beings interesting role playing opportunities that most open party style games lack. That along with great Radom event and interludes makes for a fun ongoing campaign possibilities. Well laid out, easy to adapt into other uses and good art make it a good value for the money.

I have both run an ongoing game and have been playing in a several week long campaign and will say the amount of fun has been one of the best bargains in the gaming industry.

Troy Cummings has been drawing since he was a little kid. His illustrations have appeared in newspapers and magazines, on websites, on frozen-fish-stick packages, and in hospital waiting rooms. Fast shipping which was nice. He loves these books

I ordered these books for my son for Christmas. They arrived well packaged and undamaged. Fast shipping which was nice. He loves these books! I have not read them but our son read one to my husband and he said they were really fun books. Our son is 9 and hates to read! He is an excellent reader but would rather play video games all day if we would let him. For him to ask for the whole set and to see him re-reading the ones from school tells me they must be pretty awesome books.
