Best for those involved with strategy.

A couple of things about this book:

1. The title is misleading. It is, in-fact, not 'very short'. Though it may only be 170 pages (or thereabouts), it took me many, many hours of reading and rereading in order to absorb the many theories and studies that are presented in the text. Additionally, at $20 for the Kindle edition, it is not what I consider 'reasonably cheap.'

2. If you're not involved with strategy in your organization, this will most likely bore you to tears. I read this for the capstone course in my MBA program. I was warned ahead of time that it was the most boring book some of my classmates have ever read. With that said, I did find it 'fairly interesting' based on the fact that I actually am a strategic planner. Much of the content was applicable to what I do, and for the most part I could appreciate the authors waxing lyrical about strategy. However, I am vastly in the minority among my classmates when it comes to enjoyment and knowledge extraction from this book.

3. Though I did glean some pearls of wisdom, this text is a perfect example of academia being self-perpetuating. Although I admitted above to finding parts of it interesting from a strategist's perspective, the content is probably more appealing to business strategy professors rather than actual business strategy practitioners. (I should admit that I tend to be somewhat of a nerd when it comes to theory, so I enjoyed the academic-ness of it.) For the most part, the book is structured as so: a study by a professor is presented, another professor(s) studies that study, a different professor(s) finds faults in the study, still yet another professor(s) critiques and delves deeper into the study matter, and some other professor(s) decides to begin a completely new study based on the old study. And the authors of the book disagree with all of the studies (after they've presented an entire chapter going over every detail of said studies). Repeat.

Overall, it was a tolerable read. It was like reading a very, very long lecture. You'll get some nuggets of knowledge out of it, but for the most part it's lots of droning on and on.

142 pages of literature review on the history of strategy with some opinion that is useless and/or incoherent, either because it's so ridiculously boring or because the authors wanted to embed their pretentious vocabulary lesson throughout. If you don't wear a dictionary out when you read this book, I want you on my Scrabble team. The blabber is so tedious I lost track of which theories they agree with and which they don't. The content that I consider useful to me could have been written in a pamphlet. Why would you blabber on for an entire chapter on something that could have been said in one or two paragraphs? To sell a cheap book that is neither short nor the least bit interesting. Funny, there's no discussion on the strategy of deceptive book titles. Change the name! Now I'm required to study this book and memorize the names of people who will never matter to me.

Each page highlights a different animal, including a polar bear and her cub, an Arctic hare and her leverets, and a wolf and his pups. The last verse tells of 10 "surprise" animals hiding in the previous pages and invites children to go back to the beginning for a closer read. An author's note gives more information about the Arctic tundra and explains that while most of the details in the book are factual, the number of babies each animal would have according to the rhyme is not accurate. Spreads feature chunky cut-paper collages in a cool palette. An artist's note explains the process for creating the illustrations. Other interesting back matter includes tips for extended activities and notes for the traditional "Over in the Meadow" tune with the altered Arctic lyrics. Every teacher needs this book. It's not just for young grades who are learning to count, but for older grades who are learning about organisms, habitats, and the animal kingdom!! An invaluable resource

The fact that this volume is in its 8th Edition (edition 1 appeared in 1978) testifies to its worth to the community it serves. Should institutions purchase this book if they have the previous edition? The answer of course has to be `yes'. There are 957 entries (1717 pages), 222 compounds having been added since 2004. It is an indispensable source of practically-useful information on drug/poison pharmacokinetics, metabolism, toxicology, and analytical methodology for case work and teaching/research alike. A very welcome feature is that `old' compounds are not simply deleted - in toxicology poisons never simply fade away, they just crop up when you least expect them!

A note of caution. Proper interpretation of analytical data requires not only an understanding of the circumstances surrounding a case, but also an appreciation of the circumstances under which any data cited to aid interpretation were produced. Hence the value of the references to the primary literature that make up a substantial proportion of the book.

The book is an essential for anyone performing toxicology consultations.
My only big complaint is that Amazon.com charged more than $70.00 over the direct purchase price from the book seller. Next time I want textbooks via the net, I will skip Amazon and go direct. Amazon should refund some of this overcharge.

The nation became obsessed with Lindbergh during the tour in which he was seen in person by more than 30 million Americans, a quarter of the nation's then population. No other author before or since ever had such an extensive, highly publicized tour that helped promote a book than did Lindbergh's "We" of himself and the Spirit during their 22,350-mile tour of the US. He visited 82 cities in all 48 states during which the nation's nascent aviation superhero delivered 147 speeches and rode 1,290 miles in parades.

Charles Augustus Lindbergh was born in Detroit Michigan on February 4, 1902. He died on the Hawaiian Island of Maui on August 26, 1974. The author of the foreword, Myron T. Herrick, was born on October 9, 1854 in Huntington Ohio and died on March 31, 1929 in Paris France where he was serving as US Ambassador. Fitzhugh Green, Senior, an Arctic Explorer who wrote the afterward, was born in St. Joseph Missouri on August 16, 1888 and died on December 2, 1947 in Danbury, Connecticut.
