Author Abbie St. Claire continues the story of Ian and Chelsie in book 2. This is not a standalone book, you must read book 1 to fully enjoy Complicated on 5th Avenue.

What a story! Ian and Chelsie are trying to commit to their love, share their lives, and knit two children together in acceptance of their commitment. Oliver is standing off from Chelsie, Ian is feeling insecure of his place in Chelsie's life, and Chelsie still has insecurities involving relationships and her place in Ian's affections. Through it all, they are firmly together as a couple. Tragedy strikes; Ian and Chelsie will face a life altering situation. How will they handle the adversity in their life? How did life become so complicated?

CHARACTERS, PLOTTING, AND DEVELOPMENT:
Ms. St. Claire does a splendid job of crafting the characters in this story. Her development of the story-line was skillfully done. She created a story that was intriguing and emotional. I couldn't put this book down. I ran the gauntlet of emotions from happiness to sadness. Had these two people not been through enough? At times I wanted to shake Ian, in turn, I wanted to yell at Chelsie and then I wanted to cry for both as they are stricken by tragedy and the aftermath.

The sexual attraction and love scenes in this book are steamy, hot, and will curl your hair. The steam and heat between Ian and Chelsie rolls off the pages.

The plot in this book is a roller-coaster ride, it has twist and turns, including an added mystery, that will keep you reading to the last page; I found this added element a great addition to the story-line. Ms. St. Claire skillfully wove a fascinating tale and left us with a humdinger of a cliff hanger ending. I can't wait to read book 3.

The pacing of story was great, the book never lags or bogs down as Ms. St. Claire weaves this tale through twist and turns to create a wonderful continuation of the story in Conflicted On 5th Avenue. She leaves you panting for the rest of the story.

RECOMMENDATION:
This book contains explicit sex and sexual language. I recommend this book for young adult and adult due to sexual content. Grab a cool glass of your favorite beverage, sit back, and enjoy Ian and Chelsie's continuing story.

This book will appeal to anyone that likes a solid crafted story that leaves them wanting more. I look forward to following Chelsie and Ian in book three.

Ian and Chelsie are in a good place with their togetherness, but the boys are finding out that sharing their parents isn't easy.As a step-parent in my own life, I wanted to show the external�struggles that a relationship has to sustain and yet keep the momentum on track.�I tried to keep this series full of emotion and the realism palpable. I hope you enjoy the depth of emotion that this second installment takes.

Another Great Read!

This is the second installment of Ian and Chelsie's story.

Trying to make a relationship work when the son of the man you love is completely against it is hard but when something is worth fighting for that what you do fight. Ian convinces Chelsie that if they go slow and give Oliver some time he'll grow to like them being together. Chelsie worries that it may not happen when at every turn Oliver makes his dislike known. Ian makes a decision that they all go away together on a ski trip and maybe a change in scenery will make things easier. Things do not go smooth for them on this trip Chelsie gets food poisoning on the first night and Oliver continues to be difficult.

Ian likes to be in control in everything and this is no different. He tries to push Chelsie is the direction he feels they should be going and she allows this up to a point because she loves him. However she isn't going to let Ian treat her in the same controlling manner her ex did. Ian has a bad accident while skiing mostly because Oliver doesn't listen and goes to a trail that is too advanced for him. Ian is rushed to the hospital and immediately taken to surgery. Chelsie doesn't know what to do so she calls his parents whom she hasn't even met and tells them the news having no idea how the situation could get any worse until they arrive. She can see where Ian gets his control issues from just by watching his parents try to take over. One good thing comes from this bad situation though Oliver finally accepts Chelsie and Ty into the life his has with he father however it may be too late. When Ian wakes he agrees to go back home with his parents against everything Chelsie says. Chelsie knows that once he is gone they would be over too.

Not wanting to believe that Ian would do this to her Chelsie tries to get in contact with him and when she forces his hands to get him to talk to her he ends things. When he ex takes their son on a trip Chelsie finally realizes how bad she's let things go and tries to move on however her friends telling her that Ian keeps checking in about her doesn't help. Mixed signals sends her to do something drastic to get Ian's attention however the ends result is both good and bad. Ian comes back and things more complicated as he leaves after sleeping with Chelsie only this time it may be the last time Chelsie lets him back into her life. I had to keep myself from tossing my kindle while reading this one I really came to hate Ian and was wishing for Chelsie to find someone that would stick and not run at the first sign of trouble. I guess we'll see if things get better in the next book but right now I can't stand Ian and hope that Chelsie doesn't take him back and if she does she makes him grovel on his knees for awhile as punishment. Outside Ian being an idiot I really enjoyed this book however a warning this book will put you through the wringer emotionally so be prepared.

Addicting, intriguing, steamy

My Review:

I love/hate Abbie St. Claire right now. I am totally addicted to this series and my girl has left me high and dry with a wicked cliffhanger. ARRGG! Complicated on 5th Avenue is full of humor, blended family drama, and delicious steam. Then bugger, a series of tragedies hit that devastated the main characters and me as an addicted reader. Ms. St. Claire has me intrigued, captivated, caught in her web, and hopelessly addled by her story. I am beyond concerned and ready to howl as I don’t see mention of when the next in the series is to appear – and I must have the closure – inquiring minds what to know! Ms. St. Claire is a sneaky temptress and tease – but I am a die-hard fan-girl and have the utmost faith (typing while on my knees begging) that she will pull out all the stops with Book 3.

Great Coverage of 20th Century Mental Health Issues

Since it was a kindle edition I don't feel that covered enough especially about the Kirkbride asylums, some of which still stand today. There is not enough history about the insane in the book. What I did like was what the author included on the latter half of the 20th century when President Reagan made changes to the care of the mentally ill in America. That topic was covered well. He also included a chapters on treatment with one of the early treatments being lobotomies and another being shock treatment. He revealed the cruelness of these treatments and points to Rosemary Kennedy as an example of what could and did go wrong with treatment.

I enjoyed it even though I had already seen most of the information in other books or on different websites. But if you are new to the topic this is a great book for you.

About the Author
Josefina Figueira-McDonough, Ph.D., is professor emerita of Social Work and of Justice and Social Inquiry at Arizona State University. Trained in social work and sociology at the University of Michigan, she has taught in both fields at the University of Michigan, Michigan State University, and Vanderbilt University. She has lectured and/or conducted research in Puerto Rico, Brazil, South Korea, Taiwan, Mozambique, Portugal, Spain, Italy, and Ireland. Her work on social justice has focused on deviance and control, the ecology of poverty, policy outcomes, community analysis and curricula. This research has been supported by federal, state, and private grants and disseminated in social science as well as in social work journals. She is presently on the board of two international and interdisciplinary journals, Social Intervention and Social Compass, and is a member of the book committee of the National Association of Social Workers. Her most recent books include Community Analysis and Praxis: Toward a Grounded Civil Society (Brunner-Routledge, 2001), Servi�o Social: Profiss�o e Identidade, with A. Negreiros, A. Martins and B. Henriques (Veras Editora, 2000), and Women at the Margins: Neglect, Punishment and Resistance, edited with Rosemary Sarri (Howard Press, 2002).

Set in politically corrupt modern Italy, "At the End of a Dull Day" is the story of Giorgio Pellegrini, an ex-terrorist/gangster who has carved out a very comfortable life as a respectable and prosperous night club owner in a town in the Veneto region of Italy. He is in full control of his life, including the minute-to-minute manipulation of his beautiful wife's daily routine and total subservience to his personal whims and physical needs. When his carefully built golden life starts to come apart after a major betrayal by his lawyer and political sponsor which involves the embezzlement of most of Pellegrino's savings (actually investments in some shady projects), he reverts to old and very violent habits to salvage his garden of eden. Things spiral downward when the Calabrian mafia arrive on his doorstep.

While often a depressing commentary on the bottomless political and social hell that author Massimo Carlotto ascribes to contemporary Italy, the plot of this novel is unusually clever and frequently witty enough to keep the reader from total disgust. By book's end, it's difficult not to develop some level of admiration for Pellegrino and his determination to survive and prosper in what is very much a savage and violent political jungle.

A Quick and Enjoyable, Yet Underdeveloped Read

"At the End of a Dull Day" is a noir novel about a restaurant owner who is a former hit man, who runs into trouble when he is double-crossed by a former benefactor. The tension increases as the novel progresses, and soon our protagonist Giorgio clashes with some local Mafia who are trying to take over his business. At the same time, he is involved in a love triangle with his wife and another woman, and his prostitution ring is in danger of being foiled.

While the pace of the book keeps a steady beat, I find that many of the characters are one-dimensional. Also, I find the plot is unoriginal and some of the plot developments didn't make any sense. I couldn't understand how this character would be so callous about random murder, and his relationships with the women in the book are very poorly developed. The women are portrayed as sniveling, wimpy weaklings and I thought it negatively impacted the book.

A treat for lovers of noir. Makes you want to read Carlotto's early work. I don't know if it's indicative of Italian noir but unlike even some of the American classics, the plot is straightforward. A good, cold-blooded read … with a sense of humor.

Great Exercises Book

This book contains a great summary of all the chapters containing signal and systems and digital signal processing. The solved exercise are a great way to learn all the subjects in each chapter. This book is recommended to get extra practice and be more comfortable with dealing with systems.

what a joy

Elsie De Wolfe is acknowleged as the first woman to make a fortune as a decorator and can be called the first life style maven of the 20th century. Her opinions on home decor were eagerly seized upon by millions of aspirational women around the country. She wrote The House in Good Taste 90 years ago but it's just as fresh and suitable now as it was then.
I can't bring myself to agree with her on patchwork quilts, lace curtains or rocking chairs but she's absolutely correct in her advice on wallpaper, paint and apartments. It's amazing how much this delightful and informative book still has to teach us.

I bought this book when it first came out. I tried reading it, was (too) quick to call it 'trite' and gave it away. Later my boyfriend gave me a copy (not knowing that I'd tried it before) so I had to slog through it. I am so very glad I did. Ms. DeWolfe has a unique style of writing that must be understood before you will truely enjoy the book. She has a wit and charm that is backed by such sincerity that few designers today could pull this level of writing off. The book will make you want to find more by or about this stylishly pragmatic decorator

Brass Beds, Lace Curtains, Rocking Chairs be gone!

This book was a surprise. Written in 1914 it seems current. I had delayed reading this classic, to my regret. De Wolfe's wonderful book is back with an updated introduction and several additions in the note section at the back that refer to today's decoration. It also includes the reasons behind her dislike of Eastlake furniture--which is just fabulous stuff, especially when re-upholstered in a updated print (the same goes for most Victorian furniture). I agree with her on her dislike of brass beds and lace curtains...but she also disliked rocking chairs...and for that, one must consider she never had a baby...

First, a lot of what she said is relevant then, as it is today. There is a big difference though, and that is simply put, people do not have her kind of money...so in some ways her advice has a bit of Marie Antoinette feeling to it. That shouldn't surprise as she lived across the street from Versailles.

Her writing is vibrant,and conveys the person behind the taste. She loved chinoiserie, fireplaces, leopard print, stripes, chintz and trellis. Would she fit into a Nate Berkus world...no...but decorating tastes move on and one can see a hint of Elsie here and there. Though I still prefer Sister Parish by far...Elsie is a close second.
